Mystee Roth Finds Home in Burgeoning City
The assistant finance officer for the City of Box Elder, Mystee Roth sits down with Cambridge Who's Who to discuss the rewards and challenges of a career in municipal government
BOX ELDER, SD, February 11, 2010 /Human Resources PR News/ --A self-made individual, Mystee Roth has found a fitting home in Box Elder, a rapidly expanding city that is also striving to carve its place in the world. She serves in the municipal government where she functions primarily as right hand to Mayor Al Dial. In the dual capacity of assistant finance officer and HR manager, Ms. Roth is known to go the extra mile to get the job done. "I'm the go-to person as a problem-solver," she says, adding, "If I can't find the answer, I'll go to somebody who can." She considers attaining these two positions in November 2006 to be her proudest professional accomplishment to date.
Ms. Roth relocated to Box Elder in 2002 and since then has helped her adopted city make great strides. "Box Elder is a fast-growing community (with) great people," she beams. It already boasts one of the best school systems in the state of South Dakota and is presently embarking on some exciting projects; these include the construction of a new city hall, the city's first community hall and events center, and the City Center, a retail development geared towards fostering major business opportunities. Mayor Dial believes his municipality of 4,000 offers visitors and investors the best of both worlds: "It's a small-town community that is close to a major metropolitan area. You have the convenience of that, but you still get the small-town atmosphere."
Despite having completed training in accounting, Ms. Roth believes that there is no teacher quite like experience. She attests that most of what she knows she learned on the job and advises anyone seeking a career in city government finances to keep a similarly open mind. "Every day is different, every day is challenging," she explains. "Having been a very self-taught individual, I like challenges."
Mystee Roth is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management. She took courses in accounting at Mount Marty College in Yankton, SD.
The City of Box Elder is centrally located between the Black Hills and the Badlands. For additional information, please visit http://www.boxelder.us.
